Using Ansible runner images for Azure deployments
Last updated: October 29, 2026
When migrating Ansible playbooks to Spacelift for Azure deployments, you should use the main Ansible runner image repository rather than the separate Azure-specific repository.
Recommended approach
Use the main Ansible runner image from https://gallery.ecr.aws/spacelift/runner-ansible with the azure-latest tag.
This image contains all the necessary tools and dependencies for running Ansible playbooks against Azure infrastructure.
Why not use the separate Azure repository?
While there is a separate spacelift/runner-ansible-azure repository in the ECR gallery, it is currently empty and not maintained. The Azure-specific functionality is instead provided through tags in the main runner-ansible repository.
